Ganesh Chaturthi HistoryGanesha is one of India’s cutest gods. He is the son of Lord Shiva and goddess Parvati. He has the head of an elephant on which is perched a dainty tiara and four hands each holding its own symbolic object. One has a trident; the second a goad made from his very own broken tooth, the third elegantly holds a lotus and forth a rosary, which is sometimes, replaced by modaks his favorite sweets. He is famous not only for being a trickster and his sense of humor but also for his wisdom. He is known as the remover of obstacles and is very often invoked when people are beginning a new enterprise. In the places like Karnataka,Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra (in India), the festival is celebrated for at least ten days and is a very joyous event. While in the other places, it is simply celebrated at home and hyms and songs are sung in his praise. Sweets are also being distributed because Ganesha really liked them.
Story Of Ganesha’s BirthThere is a very interesting story about Ganesha’s birth. It is believed that once while Parvati was taking a bath, she created a human figure from some balm and unguent, gave him life and told him to guard the door while she was bathing. After a long period of meditation on Mt.Kailash, Shiva chose that very moment to stop to see his wife. But when an unknown person whom Parvati had posted at the door stopped him, outraged Shiva cut his head. But later he discovered that he had killed Parvati’s son. For the fear of enraging his wife, he immediately dispatched his attendants to get him the head of first living creature they could find. But the first living creature happened to be an elephant. As was instructed, the head was chopped off and brought back to Shiva, who placed it on Parvati’s son’s body, thus bringing him back to life. This elephant-headed god was welcome into the first family of the Hindu heavens and named Ganesha. This brave guardian of Parvati’s door is regarded as the most auspicious God of new beginnings. He is worshipped during every festival. You will often find him guarding the entrances to temples and homes, peeping out of calendars and happily gracing marriages and other such occasions.More about festivalhttp://www.dalsabzi.com/Language_Festivals/ganesh_chaturti.htmAbout praying and worship Praying Enshrining Ganpatijihttp://www.dalsabzi.com/Language_Festivals/ganesh_chaturti_2.htm#Enshrining%20PrayingGanapati_and_desireshttp://www.dalsabzi.com/Language_Festivals/ganpati_and_desires.htm108 Names Of Lord Ganeshahttp://www.dalsabzi.com/Language_Festivals/names_of_lord_ganesha.htm
